How to Join Pokémon TCG Events & Start Competing

1. Make a Pokémon Trainer Club Account

Before anything else, you’ll need a free Pokémon Trainer Club account. This gives you a Player ID and lets you track event points and rankings.

2. Search for Local Events

Go to the official Pokémon Events Locator and choose from:

  • League Nights

  • Prerelease Events

  • League Challenges

  • League Cups

  • Regional Championships

Start with local League events, they’re relaxed, beginner-friendly, and perfect for practicing your deck.

3. Bring a Legal 60-Card Deck

For official tournaments, you’ll need a Standard Format deck (based on that year’s legality list). Make sure you bring:

  • 60 cards (no more, no less)

  • A consistent strategy

  • Damage counters, dice, or coins

  • A deck list (required for Challenges, Cups, Regionals)

4. Know the Rules (Enough to Play Confidently)

You don’t need to know everything, but understanding:

  • Turn structure

  • Status conditions

  • Prize cards

  • How abilities vs. attacks work

…will help you play smoothly.

5. Show Up Early

Events can fill up. Arriving 15–20 minutes early gives you time to register, finalize your deck, and settle in.
